The Marquis is Dead, formerly known as The Marquis, is the Avant-Garde Industrial-Doom solo project of multi-disciplinary artist Dillon Steele, self described as "Anti-Industrial Apocalypse for Modern Dystopia", sonically it resides somewhere on the border of electro-industrial and metal, it is meat-cuttingly cruel music with an experimental sound.
The project has released albums with records labels all over Europe such as Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Strange Therapy, Antibody, Kindcrime, Diffuse Reality, and Brutal Forms, amongst others, and has over a decade of touring experience, having played across North America, Central America, Europe, and Japan, in 2024 the project performed at Brutal Assault Festival in the Czech Republic and in 2025 will perform for Sonic Rites in Finland, Over The Edge in Germany, and other notable festivals.
The show is very performative, homemade instruments including customised metal percussions are played alongside conventional instruments (both electronic and acoustic) to create electro-acoustic soundscapes and walls of noise which fill the gaps in, after, and between the songs, resulting in a seamless sonic journey from start to end.
